WoodGreen’s Financial Empowerment Services help over 6,000 clients each year improve their financial well-being

Achieving financial stability while living on a low income can be extremely challenging, but we are here to help!

WoodGreen’s Financial Empowerment Services provide free information, counselling and support to low-income members of the community who have financial challenges. We empower our clients with the knowledge and skills to manage their finances and make informed decisions about their financial futures.

We offer the following free services to equip our clients with the right tools for financial success:

Financial Empowerment Counselling

This is a free service for low-income clients who have problems accessing government benefits and/or banking services, money management issues, or general financial questions. Clients meet one-on-one with trained financial counselors to learn how to manage their finances, find solutions to their financial problems and achieve their financial goals.

Income Tax Clinic

This is a Canada Revenue Agency supported Community Volunteer Income Tax Program that has been in operation for over 20 years. During the March-April tax season, volunteers prepare simple tax returns for low income clients at multiple locations throughout the East End of Toronto. After the tax season, the Income Tax Clinic operates on a weekly basis and also helps people with more complex tax problems.

Financial Empowerment Workshops

The WoodGreen Financial Empowerment Program delivers free presentations in the community on topics such as:

  • Income Tax, Benefits and Credits
  • Low-Income Retirement Planning
  • Consumer Awareness and Fraud
  • Power of Attorney for Property and Personal Care
  • Benefits, Supports and Tax Credits for Persons Living with Disabilities and their Caregivers

Workshops can be customized or developed to suit an organization’s needs and interests.
