“Friends From All Over” – Newcomers Construct Community and Connections
When Terina arrived in Canada, she was just 28 years old with five children under the age of seven—including a newborn. Stuck at home by a language she didn't yet understand and winters she had never experienced, the former elementary school teacher felt completely isolated. This is the story of how a dedicated program helped lift those barriers by offering a lifeline every newcomer parent needs—free, on-site childcare—giving Terina the exact space, time, and community she needed to learn English and confidently claim her place as a Canadian citizen.

Painting a Brighter Future for Newcomers at WoodGreen Holi Celebration
WoodGreen’s first-ever Colours of Care Holi celebration was more than just a party—it was a powerful show of support for Toronto’s newcomer community. Between the vibrant performances and the moving stories of resilience, the evening highlighted the real impact of our work. Last year alone, WoodGreen’s integrated care model helped over 4,300 people from 124 different countries find their footing and start their next chapter in this city.
