“Friends From All Over” – Newcomers Construct Community and Connections

When Terina arrived in Canada, she was just 28 years old with five children under the age of seven—including a newborn. Stuck at home by a language she didn't yet understand and winters she had never experienced, the former elementary school teacher felt completely isolated. This is the story of how a dedicated program helped lift those barriers by offering a lifeline every newcomer parent needs—free, on-site childcare—giving Terina the exact space, time, and community she needed to learn English and confidently claim her place as a Canadian citizen.
