Program Description

The ILEO Construction Union Pathways Program offers a path to a successful career in the construction industry. Designed to support individuals entering the skilled trades — electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and construction craft workers —this program provides training, apprenticeships, paid work placements, and mentorship.

 

Complete Pre-Employment Training & Academic Upgrading

  • Upgrade academic readiness and improve employment skills in 2 to 4 weeks through online learning and in-person workshops at WoodGreen’s Golden Mile location
  • Get one-on-one coaching for resume building and interview skills

 

Access Wrap-Around Supports

  • Receive construction toolkits, PPE, transportation support, and, if eligible, a living stipend

 

Train with a Union

  • Develop hands-on of hands-on training in your chosen trade with leading unions in the construction industry
  • Work towards the industry-recognized Red Seal certification

 

Gain Paid Work Experience

  • Secure 10+ weeks of on-site placement opportunities with top construction employer partners

  • Connect with industry professionals for career coaching and networking opportunities

 

Eligibility requirements

  • Resident of the Scarborough Golden Mile (postal codes M4A, M1L, M1K, M1J, M3C) or Greater Mount Weston (postal codes M6M, M6N, M6L, M9N)
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, convention refugee, refugee claimant with open work permit, visitor under emergency travel measure with open work permit, post-graduation work permit holder
  • Minimum Grade 10 transcripts or equivalent as assessed through WES or ICAS
  • Commitment to completing the apprenticeship program.
  • Driver’s license (G or G2) preferred
  • Work experience in the construction sector preferred

 

Program Dates

 

Between July and August 2025

Component: Academic Upgrading & Pre-Employment Training

Duration: 2 to 4 weeks

Schedule: Part-time

Location: 1533 Victoria Park Ave., Scarborough

Details: Online, asynchronous academic upgrading combined with bi-weekly pre-employment workshops (in-person and online)

 

Between August and November 2025

Component: Union Apprenticeship Training

Duration: 1 to 15 weeks

Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Details: Training location and duration will depend on the trades pathway selected

 

Post-Union Apprenticeship Training

Component: Paid Work Placement

Duration: 10 weeks

Schedule: Full-time

 

Between November 2025 and March 2026

Component: Mentorship with Toronto Community Benefits Network (TCBN)

Details: Mentorship sessions and coaching; Networking opportunities
