About this Position

The Housing Stabilization and Case Management Support Student supports vulnerable tenants facing unsafe living conditions, complex needs, and risk of eviction. Joins supervised site visits and hands-on interventions while learning case management, documentation, and housing-stabilization practices.

WoodGreen’s Living Standards Response Team (LSRT) provides intensive, hands-on support to vulnerable tenants facing complex challenges such as hoarding, pest infestations, unsafe living conditions, mental health concerns, and risk of eviction. Our goal is to improve living conditions, prevent evictions, and help tenants maintain stable housing

Responsibilities

  • Support tenants at risk of losing their housing through advocacy, case management, crisis intervention, and individualized support planning.
  • Participate in hands-on interventions addressing hoarding, pest infestations, excessive clutter, and unsafe living environments. Students will gain firsthand experience supporting tenants with complex housing challenges.
  • Work alongside Case Managers to support tenants experiencing mental health challenges, substance use, social isolation, and other barriers to maintaining stable housing.
  • Shadow Case Managers and Living Standards Workers during tenant visits and learn how to engage and support clients with complex needs.
  • Actively participate in supervised, hands-on activities addressing hoarding, pest infestations, unsafe living conditions, and eviction risks. This is a major part of the student placement role and LSRT’s day-to-day work.
  • Case Management: Learn about client assessments, care planning, goal setting, and housing stabilization strategies.
  • Documentation: Gain experience with case notes, progress tracking, and program documentation.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in team meetings, case discussions, field visits, and coordination with housing staff and community partners.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and listening skills, with the ability to engage clients with empathy, patience, and without judgment.
  • Work Environment: Students should be prepared to work in challenging living environments where they may encounter pests, human or animal feces, excessive garbage, strong odors, and unsanitary conditions. This is a significant part of LSRT’s work and provides firsthand exposure to the realities some tenants face in subsidized housing. Students must be comfortable working in these environments while maintaining professionalism, empathy, harm reduction and trauma-informed care, and respect for tenants, and following all safety and PPE protocols.
  • Good teamwork, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to different situations and client needs.
  • Previous education, volunteer experience, or work experience in social services, supportive housing, mental health, or community outreach is an asset but not required.
  • We’re open to placement students from different colleges and universities, particularly those studying Social Service Work, Social Work, Community Services, or related fields.
