The Assistant Facilitator Volunteer provides experienced, hands-on support to the Lead
Facilitators and helps ensure that each program session is safe, organized, inclusive and
enjoyable. This role is intended for a mature volunteer who can take initiative, work
independently when required, and provide appropriate leadership and support to youth
volunteers and participants.
Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Facilitators with the preparation, delivery and wrap-up of each
session. - Help organize participants into appropriate age/skill groups.
- Assist with transitions between activities, practices and games.
- Support the supervision of youth volunteers, including Leaders-in-Training.
- Help create a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment.
- Identify and communicate safety concerns, behavioural concerns or other issues to the
Lead Facilitator. - Assist with equipment setup, distribution, collection and storage.
- Help ensure participants understand and follow program expectations and safety rules.
- Provide additional support to Tier 1 participants (ages 8–12) when needed.
- Assist with attendance or basic program tracking as requested.
- Step in to support the Coach, Referee or Lead Facilitators when appropriate.
- Help maintain positive relationships with participants and volunteers.
- Model appropriate communication, sportsmanship and leadership.

- Able to remain calm and positive in a busy sports environment.
- Comfortable taking direction while also using initiative.
- Previous experience working with children/youth, sports, recreation or community programs is an asset.
- Current First Aid/CPR is an asset.
- Level 1 – NCCP training is an asset.
