Statement from WoodGreen’s Vice President of Community Care, Dorothy Quon, on the Fall Economic Statement Commitment of $1.1 billion to home care and Hospital to Home programs

Toronto, ON | October 28, 2025 – WoodGreen Community Services welcomes the Government of Ontario’s early announcement on the Fall Economic Statement commitment of $1.1 billion over three years to extend home care services and the Hospital to Home programs.

WoodGreen is pleased to see action taken by the Ontario government. This investment will support programs in East Toronto, such as MGH2Home, an enhanced care program from East Toronto Health Partners (ETHP), that helps clients transition home safely when they leave Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) in Toronto’s east end.

Clients in this program are assigned a dedicated team of healthcare professionals including staff from WoodGreen Community Services, who work collaboratively as part of an interprofessional team to help clients recover and return to community.

“The great benefit of MGH2Home is the collaborative team approach. Clients receive supports from PSWs, therapists, social workers and more.” says Dorothy Quon, VP of Community Care at WoodGreen Community Services.

“When patients are discharged from the hospital, we need to ensure they can remain healthy and well in community. The program ensures the smooth transition of clients out of the hospital allowing for emergency departments to have capacity to serve more urgent care matters.”

While encouraging to see investment in home care and Hospital to Home programs, we call upon the Government of Ontario to also prioritize community support services in the upcoming Fall Economic Statement. Community support services, including assisted living, adult day programs, transportation services, personal care services and Meals on Wheels, provide crucial support to ensure clients’ ability to remain in the community and avoid unnecessary hospitalizations. These programs and services need additional funding.

WoodGreen applauds this commitment and looks forward to continuing to work with the government and seeing further details in the Fall Economic Statement.
