Program Description

The Personalized Career Accelerator for ITPs is designed to support internationally educated newcomers in finding meaningful work in Canada that matches their skills, education, and experience.

This program is flexible and participant driven. You can choose the supports that are most useful for you, based on your goals and where you are in your job search. We believe that you best understand what support you need to succeed, and our role is to help you access it.

You may take part in one service or several, depending on what you want to focus on. Services are offered in person and online, so you can participate in ways that work for you.

 

Eligibility:

  • You are a newcomer to Canada who has arrived in the last 6 years
  • You have a minimum English CLB level of 6
  • You have a University Degree or College Diploma obtained outside of Canada

 

For reference, newcomer to Canada is defined as:

  • Permanent Resident (PR)
  • Protected Persons
  • Convention Refugee
  • Individuals who have been selected to become permanent residents and who have been informed, by a letter from IRCC
  • Foreign nationals holding a passport or travel document that was issued by the Palestinian Authority who left Gaza on or after September 1, 2023, arrive in Canada by December 31, 2026, and have valid temporary resident status, are eligible until March 31, 2027.

 

Please note that International Students, Refugee Claimants and Work Permit Holders are not eligible for this program, however you can contact our Settlement Services for support.

 

What support can you choose from?

 

A) Mentorship and Networking

Connect with professionals working in your field through:

  • One-to-one mentorship through TRIEC(Toronto Regional Immigrant Employment Council)
  • Group Mentorship events with employers and program alumni
  • Networking events
  • Employer and industry information sessions

 

B) Workshops and Group Sessions

Join workshops on topics such as:

  • Job searching as a Newcomer to Canada
  • Networking and Mentoring
  • Job Interviews for the Internationally Trained Individual
  • Navigating Canadian Workplace Culture

 

C) One-to-One Employment Support through IES (Integrated Employment Services)

Work with an Employment Counsellor to:

  • Clarify your career goals
  • Improve your resume and cover letter
  • Prepare for interviews
  • Create a job search plan that fits your experience
  • Get support and follow-up as you move toward employment

 

These opportunities help you build professional connections, learn from others, and better understand the Canadian labour market. Services are free and confidential

    A minimum CLB level 6 is required.

  • Does participation in this program guarantee employment?

    No, the program prepares you for the current job market, with Job Coaches and Mentors available to assist you in navigating and expanding your network.

  • How often will I have meetings with my mentor?

    Meeting frequency is flexible and determined by mutual agreement between you and your mentor.
