The Grocery Shopping program provides seniors with door-to-door companionship for grocery shopping, ensuring they feel supported and connected. We’re looking for a friendly, patient, and caring individual to help us deliver this vital service. As a volunteer, you’ll be matched with a senior in your local neighborhood to accompany them on grocery trips.
Responsibilities
- Volunteers will meet clients at their homes, ensuring their safety and comfort during transit and assist them with lifting items, reaching items on high and low shelves, and carrying bags home.
- Public transportation or Wheel Trans will be used for travel; TTC tokens will be provided for volunteers.
- The purpose of this role is to accompany clients to and from their grocery shopping destination and assist them in obtaining the essentials they need.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Sensitivity to the needs and challenges faced by seniors and adults living with disabilities.
- Professional, patient, and empathetic, with a desire to help older adults living in low-income and isolated situations.
- Effective communication and active listening skills
- Ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and build strong working relationships.
Shift hours:
- 2-4 hours per one trip
- Flexible scheduling
- Weekday morning and afternoon.

- Orientation to WoodGreen’s programs, policies, and procedures (Virtual)
- Professional Development Training (In-person)
COVID-19 Precautions
- Volunteers will be provided with masks, sanitizer, and face shields.

- East Toronto (Victoria Park Ave. to Bayview Ave., Eglington Ave. E. to Lake Shore Blvd)
- West Toronto (Yonge to Dufferin Street, Eglington Ave. W. to Lake Shore Blvd.
