The Food Market Assistant program is a weekly initiative aimed at supporting senior residents with their shopping tasks at our indoor Food Market, located at 444 Logan Avenue. Volunteers play a vital role in creating a welcoming and efficient shopping experience by assisting with product selection, organizing displays, conducting surveys, and responding to client needs.
Responsibilities
- Set up tables and organize boxes in the ground-floor recreation room
- Unload food boxes and supplies from the truck and transport them to the designated area
- Sort donations, place items on tables, and prepare bags for distribution
- Greet and assist clients shopping at the market
- Support personal support workers (PSWs) in selecting food items for their clients
- Deliver food bags to clients with mobility challenges throughout the building
- Break down cardboard boxes and dispose of them in the designated garbage area
- Clean and restore the room to its original setup

Requirements
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting boxes (30–50 lbs.), bending, and standing for extended periods
- Comfortable working in an environment with a variety of food items (note for individuals with food allergies)
Shift details
- Every Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- Flexible, self-scheduled shifts available weekly

- Orientation to WoodGreen’s programs, policies, and procedures (virtual)
- Professional development training
