Our Food Market Assistant program is a weekly initiative designed to assist senior residents in with their shopping tasks at our indoor Food Market, located at 2353 Dufferin St. Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring a pleasant shopping experience by selecting quality products, organizing displays, conducting surveys, and helping clients with their inquiries and needs.
Responsibilities
- Setting up table’s signage, and distribution areas.
- Unloading food boxes and supplies from the food truck and transporting them to the designated area.
- Organizing food boxes and program materials.
- Welcoming and assisting clients, including conducting a brief survey at the door.
- Assisting clients with their shopping for fresh produce.

What you bring to the team
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting boxes (up to 30-50 lbs.), bending, and standing for 2-3 hours.
- Reliable and dependable, with a commitment to showing up as scheduled.
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with clients.
- Positive and friendly attitude.
- Basic knowledge of food handling.
Shift hours
- Weekly shifts 4 Hours Per week (Flexible self-scheduling)
Screening Requirements
- Sterling Backcheck or Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Reference Check
- Minimum age of 16 (Applicants under the age of 18 must obtain parental consent.)
Training
- Orientation to WoodGreen’s programs, policies, and procedures (Virtual)
- Professional Development Training (In-person)
