Student Placement - Crisis Outreach Service for Seniors (PBI Ref-54)

Commitment: 21 hours a week (ideally the practicum will be 5 days a week, but 3+ days a week will work also be acceptable)

About the position

Provide crisis support and case management to seniors through phone, in-person, and home visits. This position is open to start in Fall 2025.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Telephone and in-person assessments for seniors in crisis
  • Crisis-based case management support for older adults and seniors
  • Home visits in pairs to seniors living in the community
  • Crisis counseling for seniors and their caregivers

 

You must be:

  • Openness to visits in seniors’ homes where living conditions are not ideal
  • Interest in working with complex seniors
  • Ideally studying in the field of Social Work (BSW or MSW)

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong crisis intervention and counseling skills
  • Collaborative approach to supporting outreach, evaluation, and engagement
  • Knowledge of senior-specific issues and community resources

 

Shift hours:

  • 21 hours a week (ideally the practicum will be 5 days a week, but 3+ days a week will work also be acceptable)

 

 

Location:

  • Office at 815 Danforth Avenue, Toronto. Practicum includes visits to the community across the City of Toronto.

 

 

Training:

  • The Volunteer Services provides orientation training and other career development opportunities
