About the Job
The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre has 12 site groups and 26 specialty clinics, and almost 3,000 staff who see over 400,000 patient visits every year. The OR is comprised of two OR suites and a four bay Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU). A wide array of services is provided, all with a priority focus on cancer care. These services encompass surgical oncology and radiation oncology. The PACU manages the patient in the procedural and post operative phase and is staffed by critical care nurses.
Requirements
• Monitoring post-operative patients’ levels of recovery and consciousness from anesthesia and providing updates to the treatment team as needed until the patient has recovered from the effects of anesthesia, is oriented, has stable vital signs, and shows no evidence of complications
• Treating pain, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms of anesthesia and administering medication as prescribed.
• Regularly checking vital signs to quickly intercept any potential issues and ensure a smooth recovery.
• Educating patients and their families on post-surgery care, as well as answering questions.
• Updating charts, patient files, and medical records.
• Treating pain, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms of anesthesia and administering medication as prescribed.
