About the Position

The AEE Summer Camp Program is a structured and engaging youth program designed for participants ages 8–14 that creates a fun, safe, and welcoming environment where all youth feel included, supported, and celebrated. Rooted in diversity, belonging, and positive community engagement, the camp offers a wide range of hands-on recreational and skill-building activities, including sports, physical and mental wellness programming, robotics, circuitry, rough carpentry, exposure to power tools, gardening, food growing, team games, competitions, and creative group activities. The program is designed to encourage confidence, teamwork, leadership, creativity, and personal growth while providing meaningful opportunities for youth to learn new skills, build relationships, explore new interests, and develop in a positive and supportive setting. The program is currently seeking 4 Volunteer Camp Counsellors for July and August 2026.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Camper Supervision & Support

  • Assist camp staff with daily camper supervision and engagement
  • Help ensure campers are where they are expected to be during transitions throughout the day
  • Support camper sign-in and sign-out procedures at the beginning and end of the day
  • Provide encouragement, guidance, and positive support to campers

 

Activities & Recreation Support

  • Support recreational games, sports, crafts, and group activities
  • Assist with activity setup, organization, and cleanup
  • Encourage teamwork, participation, and inclusion during activities
  • Act as a positive role model within the camp environment

 

Administrative & Transition Support

  • Support coordinators and administrative staff during daily camp operations
  • Assist with transitions between activities, meals, and scheduled programming
  • Help maintain organized and safe activity spaces
  • Support staff with general camp operations as needed

 

Meal & Snack Time Support

  • Assist staff during lunch and snack time supervision
  • Help facilitate smooth meal-time transitions
  • Support general cleanliness and organization during food breaks
  • Assist campers as needed during meal and snack periods

 

Event & General Camp Support

  • Assist during theme days, special events, and camp-wide activities
  • Support equipment setup and general camp preparation
  • Provide general support to staff throughout the camp day

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous volunteer, camp, or leadership experience
  • Interest in recreation, youth work, education, coaching, or community development
  • Interest in working with youth and community programs
  • Positive attitude and willingness to support team environments
  • Reliable, punctual, and respectful
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to take direction and work in a structured environment
  • First Aid/CPR is an asset

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be 18 years of age or older

 

Training will be provided. Training includes orientation to WoodGreen, program-specific training sessions, and documentation procedures.

  • Cover Letter
  • Interview
  • Two references (1 personal, 1 professional)
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening (instructions provided after acceptance)

 

Commitment:

 

Volunteers may choose to support one or both camp blocks from July to August

  • Block 1: First 3-week camp session
  • Block 2: Second 3-week camp session

 

Volunteers may select from the following scheduling options:

  • Full-Day Shift: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Morning Block Option
  • Afternoon Block Option

 

Volunteers are required to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled shift and remain 30 minutes after camp concludes to support daily preparation, camper transitions, and wrap-up responsibilities.
