About the position

Opportunity to develop and deliver Financial Literacy workshops, coordinate and assist in planning special works and events for community groups and external agencies.


  • Gain a comprehensive knowledge base of the Canadian and Ontarian income tax system, provincial and federal income supports and benefits, and additional financial topics including pensions, debt management, budgeting, etc.
  • Opportunity to build a strong understanding of supports and programs for low-income clients and their financial wellness
  • Opportunity to work with a team to develop and improve the financial empowerment program.
  • Opportunity to work with clients one-on-one in a brief, solution-focused manner




  • Be the point of contact for clients who are interested in financial empowerment services in person, through email and by telephone. This includes but is not limited to tasks such as: o Welcoming new clients o Conducting initial assessment/screening
  • Providing information and referrals applicable to the client’s needs and goals
  • Scheduling client appointments as appropriate
  • Be the point of contact for other social workers or other agencies
  • Assist in providing information and referrals to community resources, including internal and external services
  • Assist clients in completing applications for government benefits and income supports
  • Problem-solve and advocate for clients with more complex cases (i.e. calling the Canada Revenue Agency) • Prepare and electronically file income tax returns and T1 adjustments
  • Assist in training, supervising and supporting administrative volunteers for the income tax intake phone line (virtually or in-person)
  • Provide support in challenging conflict situations, including resolving client complaints and disputes to ensure a positive experience for clients.
  • Independently supervise and coordinate a team of volunteers at an income tax clinic in-person or virtually
  • Coordinate drop-off tax clinic program during off season of tax
  • Support and work with vulnerable clients from a diverse array of cultural backgrounds.
  • Maintain program statistics and data for purposes of evaluation and research
  • Other operational tasks assigned as needed
