Opened in 2002, Bruce/WoodGreen Early Learning Centre was part of Toronto First Duty and became a demonstration site for an innovative new model of early learning. The program developed from a partnership among the Toronto District School Board, City of Toronto, the Atkinson Foundation and other community groups with research done by Ontario Institute of Studies in Education. The success of the Bruce/WoodGreen Early Learning Centre model for delivering an integrated seamless program inspired and informed the work then done by Dr. Charles Pascal to form the framework for the full-day early learning kindergarten program for the Province of Ontario.
The project continues to receive attention from policy makers, funders, educators and child care experts around the globe.
Families are excited about the program because of the high quality early learning environment, the team approach to care, and the flexibility the program offers to meet individual family needs. Children enjoy a warm, consistent environment where caregivers and teachers work together to support their learning and fun.
