Financial Empowerment

WoodGreen’s Financial Empowerment Program provides education, counselling and support to empower community members with the knowledge and skills to overcome financial challenges and make informed decisions about their financial futures.

We offer four free services to equip our clients with the right tools for financial success:

1. Income Tax Clinic

This is a Canada Revenue Agency supported Community Volunteer Income Tax Program that has been in operation for over 20 years. During the March-April tax season, volunteers prepare simple tax returns for low income clients at multiple locations throughout the East End of Toronto. After the tax season, the Income Tax Clinic continues to operate on a weekly basis and also helps people with more complex tax problems.

2. Financial GAPS (Guidance, Advocacy, Problem Solving)

This is a service for low-income clients who have a financial question or problem and need personal assistance to solve it.

3. Financial Coaching

Clients living on a low-income have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with trained financial counsellors for coaching on financial planning and money management issues. You don’t need to have a problem, you just need to have goals you’d like to work on.

4. Financial Literacy Workshops

WoodGreen staff and volunteers deliver a variety of free workshops on Financial Literacy topics. We can also customize a workshop to suit an audience’s needs and interests.
