  1. Intergenerational Teaching & Learning Community Volunteers
    Weekday Afternoons (once a week for seven weeks)

    This program develops intergenerational relationships with small groups of students. This is accomplished through interactive discussions and through the sharing of hobbies and creative activities in a school setting. 
    Volunteers must be 55+ and able to travel to school location in East York area. 
    Volunteers must enjoy teaching and interacting with children. A flexible personality is a key attribute. 
    Currently recruiting for sessions starting in March. 

     
  2. Volunteer Escort for Seniorss
    Weekdays, flexible time, flexible locations

    Volunteers are responsible to accompany seniors to their medical appointments. Volunteers should be willing to commit in the daytime, and be flexible. 

     
  3. Friendly Visitor 
    Weekdays, flexible time, flexible locations

    This program provides companionship and social support to socially isolated seniors in order to reduce their loneliness and improve their quality of life. 
    Volunteers need to commit to a 3 month time period. 
    Volunteers should enjoy being with seniors and listening to their concerns. The availability to be consistently reliable is a key attribute of this position.  

     
  4. Meals on Wheels (MOW) – Both drivers and runners are needed.
    Weekdays from 11am to 2pm.

    Come join us to deliver hot and nutritious meals to homebound seniors. Make a tremendous difference in the community by being a major part of dozens of isolated seniors’ lives. Get involved and be a part of our MOW volunteer team, which consists of 100 plus dedicated individuals. Please help us put a smile on a lonely senior’s face, one at a time!
    Runners must be physically fit to lift heavy food containers.
    Driver must have own vehicle, have valid driver’s license. Gas allowance will be provided. We desperately need several drivers in this program as soon as possible. Please give this position your first consideration.

     
  5. Community Connections  -- Professional Mentors
    Evenings, weekends, flexible time

    This program matches newcomers with volunteers who are familiar with Canadian culture, values, workplaces, and everyday life. Professional Mentorship is a key segment of this program where a newcomer is matched with an experienced Canadian professional from the same field with the goal of assisting the newcomer overcomes several of the perceived barriers, within an encouraging and supportive environment.

  6. Tutors in Homeward Bound Program
    4pm – 7pm, requires at least 1hour segment on 3 weekdays.
    Positions start on September, 2011

    Individuals who have experience in tutoring and working with children aged 6-15 are needed to join our Homeward Bound team to provide tutoring sessions in Math and Reading levels up to grade six. Volunteers will maintain communications with staff about students’ academics and behaviors. Volunteers will also be asked to supervise recreational activities. Location of this volunteer position is at 280 Donlands Ave.

     
  7. Homework Club Tutor
    Every Tuesday from 12-1pm; Wednesday from 12-1pm; and Thursday from 3:30 - 6pm
    Positions start on September 20, 2011

    Volunteers will be assisting high school aged youth who are newcomers with the completion of their homework in a variety of subjects including Math, Science, English, History, and ESL etc.

    Volunteers must be able to commit at least 6 months. Locations will be one day a week at our 815 Danforth Ave office, 2 days in partner schools.

    Most desirable volunteer are expected to have experience working with youth/newcomer youth. Possess skills in one or more high school subject areas; proficiency with computer applications; experience working with ESL learners; and sensitivity and awareness of issues faced by newcomer youth.
     
     
  8. Developmental Services (Adults with Developmental Disabilities)
    Weekdays, flexible time, flexible locations

    Encourage community inclusion by escorting clients to appointments, social activities, special events etc. Also include teaching daily living skills, e.g. transit planning, grocery shopping, and laundry etc. May also include friendly visiting and security check phone calls.
    Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities, or possess related education background is required.
